I am very thankful to have had such a supportive family while pulling them all over the country for the past 26 years in the Navy. I now have the opportunity to address how we treat acute and chronic pain. I am a strong believer that it starts with how we take care of ourselves each day. Sleep and the ergonomics associated with restful sleep are part of that process. I am glad to have the opportunity to work with 2920 Sleep who also see the health benefits of proper sleep and rest, and an awareness of how we impact the environment around us.
Bio: DEREK LODICO
Commander, US Navy. Chief, Cardiothoracic Anesthesia. Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
A doctor who surfs, or a surfer who docs? This has been a running joke between colleagues and 2920 Dream Team member Derek Lodico. His pathway was not the classic road to becoming a physician!
Derek’s home team includes his wife Dawn, and two boys Devon and Gavin, who have been together from the beginning. They have traveled from San Diego, to Hawaii, to Virginia, and now to Washington DC. Starting as a Hospital Corpsman as an E-1, Derek has since gone through 5 enlisted and 5 officer ranks. During that time, he was also a surf team manager, competitive surfer, first responder (EMT), medical acupuncturist, nurse and a Navy Diver. Derek is currently the Chief of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
